The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication invites applications for the News & Record-Janice Bryant Howroyd Endowed Professorship. The position is a 9-month appointment at the rank of Full Professor. The department is seeking an accomplished and notable candidate with a distinguished record of professional experience, scholarly research, strong commitment to teaching, evidence of an ability to develop programs of excellence that will enhance the professional and ethical capabilities of future journalism and mass communication leaders.
The successful candidate will continue to produce scholarly publications, teach courses in journalism and mass communication, serve as a mentor to junior faculty and students and exemplify the initiative, integrity, and service befitting the honored recognition associated with this endowed appointment. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, fundraising, grant writing, and service to the Department, College and University as needed.
The Endowed Professorship is a renewable three-year appointment.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in multimedia journalism, mass media production, and public relations, which are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC).
The department is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, which enrolls more than 1,850 students and has more than 105 faculty members. More than 600 students are majors in the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, which plans to establish a graduate program in the immediate future.
The mission of the Department is to prepare students with the high quality education necessary to succeed as professionals and critical thinkers and to become productive citizens of their communities, the nation and the world.

PhD in communication, journalism, mass media, strategic communication, or a Ph.D. in a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline from an accredited institution. Additionally, an outstanding teaching record and research experience at the University level is also required.
Eight or more years of research and teaching expertise with a proven record of scholarly productivity and teaching excellence is preferred. Evidence of distinguished professional experience in the field of communication, journalism or strategic communication is required. Candidates for this endowed chair should present qualifications suitable for appointment as a full professor.
