The Manager of Media and Communications helps to design and implement the Cooperative’s communications strategy with regard to written communications, branding, public and media relations, and advises senior leadership on related matters.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Assist at times with Member relations, coordinate public relations campaigns, administer communication plan, and assist with crisis management.
B. Manage and assist with administration of the Operation Round Up ® program as may be offered by the EMC.
C. Develop, manage and oversee all aspects of the company’s internal communications initiatives. Responsible for development and distribution of any internal management or administrative updates, newsletters, or the like with the aim of informing Cooperative employees and their families.
D. Oversee strategic and creative development of all external marketing, branding, and communication efforts.
E. Maintain and build company awareness and reputation management initiatives through comprehensive analysis and research to ensure best practices are continually utilized.
F. Responsible for strategic planning and delivery of all community outreach and education programs.
G. Create and maintain organized strategy and plan of work for all media relations as well as public relations.
H. Assist in fostering positive relations in order to communicate relevant information to Members, influence public opinion and promote ideas, products and services.
I. Research and planning for long-term strategic initiatives, including industry trends and best practices with regards to internal and external marketing and communications.
J. Ongoing project management of internal and external marketing and communications to ensure all deadlines are met while maintaining best-in-class quality of work.
K. Develop comprehensive departmental budget and provide for sound budget management.
L. Development of brochures, documents, presentations, press releases, website postings, social media posts, or other required outreach, marketing or communications vectors.
M. Coordinate with the Manager of Information Systems (or his/her designee) in development and maintenance of the Cooperative’s website, and social media platforms.
N. Manage, record and make necessary reports regarding all Cooperative donations, sponsorships and memberships as directed by the employees’ supervisor.
O. Manage and direct the Media and Communications Specialist in the execution of all required job duties. Conduct periodic informal performance reviews of the Media and Communications Specialist, execute Annual Performance Reviews of this employee and recommend personnel actions (raises, promotions, demotions, disciplinary actions) with regard to the same.
P. Other duties as may be assigned, from time-to-time, by the Director of Administrative Services & External Relations and/or the General Manager.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in Business, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field, and at least five (5) years in writing, editing, public relations or related field, or an equivalent combination of a 2-year (Associates) degree, combined with relevant training and direct work-experience. Requires demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills to be used with the managers, employees and public. Must be able to manage, direct, and work effectively with the Media and Communications Specialist, in the execution of his/her duties. Requires the ability to provide vision and leadership for development of comprehensive marketing, communications, and media relations plans, and development of strategies and work plans to accomplish departmental goals. Must be proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, editing and graphic design software. Requires demonstrated business skills including the ability to prepare all types of correspondence, skills in grammar, spelling and punctuation, editing and proof reading. Requires the ability to research topics and present in writing and verbal form to various audiences after regular working hours on a regular basis. Requires the ability to work efficiently and effectively without direct supervision and be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization to handle Cooperative issues in a confidential and tactful manner.
