Position Summary: The California Digital Library (CDL) is a collaborative effort of the ten campuses of the University of California. As a UC systemwide library, CDL provides services to and on behalf of the UC system in partnership with the UC campus libraries. As a globally-connected digital library, CDL occupies a unique position between the local UC campuses and the global digital library infrastructure. The primary user base for CDL services and programs includes UC faculty, students, and library staff. The CDL is a unit within the UC Office of the President, has a staff of 70+ and is located in downtown Oakland.
This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of open access publishing and dissemination products and services that include the eScholarship open access repository and publishing platform as well as the systemwide Publication Management System. The primary role of the Senior Product Manager is to assemble and lead cross-functional teams that support the daily operations of the products and services, to manage infrastructure integrations, and to guide the implementation of features to improve the use and effectiveness of the portfolio. The Senior Product Manager also guides staff in the development of value-added products and services, and works with key campus stakeholders and industry partners to ensure that this service suite continues to provide transformative open access publishing and dissemination solutions.

Duty 1: Leads efforts in evaluating new technologies and industry trends as they emerge and determine if and how they are applicable to current products or services. Function:Product and Service Evaluation Percent: 25
Duty 2: Develops project plans including goals, deliverables, resources, budget and timelines for launches of products / services / enhancements with significant scope, size, impact and budget or of multiple smaller products of diverse scope.
Assembles and leads cross-functional teams to support product/service operations, and for other assigned deliverables. Manages ingest and harvesting activities. Function:Product and Service Management Percent: 35
Duty 3: Identifies, organizes, and leads technical discussions with key advisory groups and other customers / clients. Leads the identification of additional opportunities for value added product / service delivery based on customer / client / advisory group interaction and feedback. Function:Communication and Assessment Percent: 20
Duty 4: Coordinates the preparation and maintenance of documentation and tutorials, including end-user documentation and release notes. Coordinates provision of technical consultation to ensure product reliability and responsiveness to problems. Function:Customer Relationships Percent: 20
Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in information science, computer science, library science or related field and at least five years' experience with development or delivery of online information products and services in educational, publishing, library and/or research settings, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advanced knowledge of product development concepts, practices, standards and processes.
Proven ability to identify key issues critical to the organization's long-range success of a desired product or service.
Proven ability to research, collect and analyze information to use in determining product options or alternatives.
Advanced organization and project management skills to lead large or multiple cross-functional teams.
Advanced oral communication skills to effectively present, negotiate, convey and explain information.
Advanced written communications skills to draft clear, concise documentation, reports and specifications.
Proven ability to lead, build consensus and promote the exchange of information among project team, internal and external constituencies.
Proven ability to manage and support the daily operations of multiple product and service offerings. Required
Master's degree in information science, computer science, library science or related field. Preferred
