The Social Media Specialist is responsible for developing, guiding and continuously refining the social media strategy for each of Ohio University's official platforms (currently Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter) in support of OHIO's educational mission and vision.
The successful candidate will be charged with implementing strategy via developing and editing social media content that communicates key University brand/strategic plan messages, fulfills OHIO's overall marketing and communication goals and follows industry best practices. They will play a critical role in expanding OHIO’s social media presence by engaging key audiences and building the appropriate distribution channels for content.
They will develop and maintain tools and reports for scheduling and monitoring social media content across platforms. They will also conduct regular audits to determine the effectiveness of their social media strategies and campaigns and will be responsible for providing recommendations for improvement.
The Social Media Specialist will also be responsible for monitoring social media channels and working collaboratively with other team members and departments to create relevant content and analyze/report on growth, engagement and the overall impact of their social media efforts. Strong content writing and editing skills are required. Must possess excellent social media listening skills to monitor and identify potential critical situations and/or University reputational issues and share them with UCM's Senior Director and other stakeholders when necessary.
Excellent time management, project prioritization, short-and long-term planning, organizational, communication, analytical, collaborative skills and attention to detail required. Must demonstrate excellent judgment regarding news and content creation and the ability to understand and effectively execute media that aligns with OHIO's brand identity. The ability to develop multimedia content, photography, video, etc., is a preferred, but not required.
Build and execute social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification
Develop a customized social media plan for each of Ohio University's official channels. Create editorial calendars and syndication schedules for each of OHIO's social media channels Develop and edit robust social media content that resonates with OHIO's overall mission and vision
Generate, edit, publish and share daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action
Collaborate with other units, identify key players and coordinate actions Experience with higher education content is preferred Must possess a vision to develop and implement multimedia content, including photography and video elements, in coordination with University Communications and Marketing's creative services team.
Set up and optimize company social media pages within each platform to allow for effective monitoring of social conversations and enhance opportunities for increasing the reach and visibility of OHIO's social content
Moderate all user-generated content in line with the moderation policy for each community
Continuously improve by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, provide insight into new and/or emerging social media platforms, and display the ability to make informed, data-driven decisions based on the information that is collected.
A Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or equivalent is required.
A minimum of 3 years related practical work experience is required.
Or a combination of education and experience meeting the requirements above.
Must articulate a working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations.
Previous experience working at an institution of higher learning.
