This position will provide office management and administrative assistance support to the department chairperson, and ad hoc support to the Journalism and Mass Communication Department faculty, students, university, and external agency clientele. The department serves 500+ majors and 20 faculty members. This position's primary responsibilities will be that of coordinating the flow of work as pertains to the main office, serving as liaison between the Department office and the faculty and students within the Department, and interacting closely with University administration (i.e., the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Dean's Office, Academic Affairs, etc.) as well as external entities such as the accrediting organizations, media representatives/personnel, etc. The position/employee also works to ensure that JOMC Department events/initiatives (e.g., accreditation activity, NABJ Multimedia Short Course, etc.) are successfully implemented and completed.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is an academic department in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers the Bachelor's degree in the concentrations of Mass Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Public Relations. In addition, the Department offers several service courses to meet University Studies requirements. The Department is one of the larger departments in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, with a total student enrollment of over 500 majors and 20 faculty with academic degrees and/or professional experience in the concentration areas. The Department also offers practical student training opportunities via the TV Studio, the WNAA 90.1 Radio Station, The Register student newspaper, and production labs. The Department hosts regional and national conferences, as well as the NABJ Short Course; coordinates student internship opportunities for its majors; and serves as a source of faculty information and expertise in regards to digital media.
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 160 faculty members.

Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Preferred:
-Bachelor's degree with three years of progressively responsible clerical experience, or at least five years of commensurate office experience in a University/higher-education setting. -Work coordination/office management experience and/or ability. -Advanced computer and word processing ability. -Research/data compilation experiences/skills. -Writing/editorial/proofreading experience -Excellent grammar and spelling. -Sound problem solving and decision-making skills. -Public interaction/communication and ability to handle high volume student interfacing -Knowledge or experience with social media platforms/information distribution.
