Soka University of America is currently seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Assistant to the Soka Institute for Global Solutions (SIGS). The Assistant will primarily provide administrative support to the SIGS.
Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially with regard to socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity and have a willingness to facilitate the university’s mission to develop global citizens.
Essential duties include but are not limited to:
Assist with the administrative tasks of the SIGS including coordinating internal and external conferences, all travel logistics, purchase requisitions, meeting materials production, schedules, room reservations, catering, meeting room set-up, etc.
Engage in information gathering for research/program activities of SIGS on the topics including but not limited to: Peace education, Environmental education, Developmental education, and Human Rights education.
Liaison between various areas including the Office of the President, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, IT, Marketing and Communications department, etc. for various tasks.
Coordinate hiring process for student employees.
Develop and maintain budgets.
Order office supplies.
Update university website and portal.
Manage calendars for SIGS as well as shared meeting spaces (Center for Race, Ethnicity, Human Rights and the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion).
Design and produce conference summary reports and other publications related to the work of the SIGS.
Other related duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience
Relevant administrative work experience preferably in a university environment
Competencies/Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience using Workday preferred.
High proficiency in personal computer systems utilizing databases, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, to include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and other Microsoft applications.
Ability to independently write general correspondence and reports.
Strong skills in proofreading and editing. Must be detail oriented.
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
Ability to maintain accurate filing system and records.
Skills in research and information gathering.
Ability to work accurately with a high level of efficiency.
Experience in project management.
Ability to handle confidential matters and exercise diplomacy and discretion.
Ability to maintain multiple priorities, projects and adhere to stringent deadlines.
Ability to work some nights and weekends.
Capacity for developing and sustaining effective relationships with administrators,
faculty, staff, students, and the community.
High ethical and professional standards.
Soka University of America offers excellent benefits. Salary range for this position is $40,000 to $48,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
