Provide strategic leadership for content development, planning and execution, overseeing all marketing and communications content initiatives, both internal and external, across all platforms and formats to optimally engage audiences and deliver on Kent State University’s strategic roadmap. Serve as an expert in content-related channel optimization, brand consistency, segmentation, analytics, and meaningful measurement. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Content Strategy or designated administrator.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead content team in comprehensive, innovative thinking to strategically create, develop, approve, and disseminate compelling stories that share Kent State’s vision and excellence with the world.
Ensure all content is in brand, consistent in style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels of content including online, social media, email, mobile, video, and print.
Develop and execute content management strategy, including the development of a functional content calendar that supports and extends the university’s strategic initiatives, both short- and long-term.
Supervise writers, editors, and content strategists, ensuring consistency in brand, strategic messaging, quality and accuracy.
Initiate, research, write, and deliver engaging content for university-wide communications, assessing and recommending best platforms for delivery. Collaborate with divisions, campuses and colleges across the institution to identify significant stories, coordinate content development and distribution plans.
Work with the University President to develop presidential communications strategy, positioning, planning, engagement and content that advance university and presidential priorities and university communications goals.
Manage the research, planning, preparation and execution of internal and external presidential communications including speeches, messages, reports and national policy papers on major issues in higher education.
Conduct ongoing usability tests to gauge content effectiveness. Gather data and metrics, analyze results and make recommendations.
Establish and nurture role as recipient of editorial feedback across all campus colleges, units and locations including students and external customers, ensuring that content is properly aligned with Kent State vision, brand and the Strategic Roadmap initiatives.
Develop standards, systems and best practices for content creation, distribution, maintenance, and content re-purposing.
Leverage market, industry and higher education data to develop content themes and topics, and execute a plan to develop the assets that support and advance the university’s strategic priorities.
Establish a workflow for requesting, creating, editing, publishing, and retiring content.
Produce select communications for other university officials as assigned.
Follow issues, trends, and developments in higher education and reflect them in prepared communications.
Represent the President’s Office as requested with internal and external editors, special event organizers, and others requesting public appearances and related communications by the University President.
Manage a presidential communications editorial calendar.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications or other related field of study. Minimum of eight years executive-level writing experience including speechwriting for a high-level executive.
