| Advertised Summary Job Description: The Office of Career Services at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs seeks a professional with deep knowledge in employer relationship engagement and management, and enthusiastic and innovative commitment to delivering effective career services for its student population of over 1400 graduate students across seven degree programs. Reporting to the Executive Director of Career Services, and working as part of the School's employer relations team, the incumbent develops and implements a comprehensive marketing strategy for employer outreach and cultivation designed to provide students and alumni with the necessary tools to successfully manage their immediate internship and full-time job searches as well as their longterm professional development. Responsibilities include identifying career interests and trends among SIPA's student population, designing, planning and implementing an employer outreach strategy, researching relevant employers, and meeting with prospective domestic and international employers to present the unique strengths of SIPA's talent pool. |
Work closely with Executive Director and Employer Relations team to shape and implement new business development strategies.
Develop and manage strategic employer outreach activities in cooperation with OCS staff, deans, concentration directors, faculty and student groups.
As a senior staff member, serve as ambassador for SIPA in marketing the SIPA brand to senior managers and recruiters at firms in finance, consulting, technology and other private-sector industries; federal government agencies; multilateral organizations (such as the World Bank and United Nations); and not-for-profit organizations..
Travel on behalf of SIPA and OCS to national and international employer sites to discuss recruiting strategies and develop mutually beneficial relationships centered on prospective employment of SIPA graduates.
Educate domestic and international employers in a diverse range of fields about the breadth of knowledge, skills and abilities that SIPA students and alumni bring to their work.
In collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Employer Relations, develop and implement the policies and programming of on-campus recruitment by SIPA employers.
Using a results-oriented approach, partner with alumni to identify organizations with employment opportunities for eligible students and help increase awareness of SIPA's talent pool within those organizations.
Collaborate with SIPA administrative and student groups to create events and activities that enable employers to elevate their brand recognition on campus.
Lead and manage the Outreach team, creating and establishing priorities and outreach strategies. Co-manage two recruitment coordinators and several student employees.
Assume responsibility for all aspects of operational and budgetary management for the Outreach team.
Develop SIPA marketing materials to be used for outreach to employers.
On an annual basis and as needed, review results of outreach efforts; report findings and trends and make constructive recommendations to the Executive Director and other senior staff members.
With the Director of Employer Relations, co-administer fellowship and formal internship programs.
Participate in the full range of OCS program planning and staff activities.
Perform related duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and a minimum of three years of directly related professional experience required, with particular focus on marketing, corporate recruiting, and finance. Experience with strategic planning, implementation and evaluation required.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Must possess outstanding interpersonal, communication and writing skills and a deep commitment to customer service. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with diverse populations is required. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word, and Excel, and familiarity with desktop database programs and online job/internship databases. A diplomatic approach and the ability to interact effectively with internal and external constituents on and off campus is critical. Must be able to build and manage relationships with internal constituents and employers.
Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience strongly preferred. A Master's degree in a related field is a plus.
