Reporting to the Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs and Research for MSPH Administration, the Associate Dean is responsible for administering all academic affairs within the MSPH Faculty Affairs.
The Associate Dean is responsible for driving efficiency, quality, and a high standard of customer service with respect to the review and processing of faculty transactions across MSPH & CUMC departments, including hires / rehires and a variety of personnel actions. The Associate Dean will provide coaching and guidance, provides support on complex transactions and exceptions, and address key issues with departments and other MSPH stakeholders.
She/he will direct the School's faculty affairs, compliance with the policies, procedures and regulations of the University/affiliated organizations/external agencies and assure an efficient, high-functioning infrastructure to support the School's mission.
The Associate Dean for Academic Appointments is responsible for final approval of appointments and final review of appointment letters; draft reports for the Vice Dean; advise school and departments on policies relating to academic appointments; provide guidance on various research and academic relations issues in consultation with the Vice Dean; manage on-boarding and systems projects related to Faculty Affairs; work with the Vice Dean and with the Office of the Provost on policies relating to academic personnel and Appointments; Faculty Affairs data management and ad hoc reports in consultation with Vice Dean; represent the Vice Dean on projects involving systems related to academic appointments (e.g., RAPS, PAC, Labor Accounting) and work on special projects relating to academic appointments as assigned by the Vice Dean for MSPH Administration and Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs and Research for Academic Affairs. Other duties include but not limited to:
Direct and manage the academic appointments and promotions process for instructional and research faculty, officers of research, student officers for the academic departments, all Centers and administrative units within the School.
Ensure compliance with University polices & procedures & applicable federal, state and local laws. Provide compensation analyses and reviews to ensure salary equity; provide reports and conduct analyses to meet requests from internal and external constituents including ASPPH/CEPH.
Oversee the performance management, and training & development activities for the School. Responsible for directing new administrative initiatives, participate in strategic planning, assist with setting policies and procedures to support the administrative needs of the School. Represents the School on various CUMC and University-wide committees.
Directs and manages other duties as required.
General Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience plus a minimum of 8-10 years related experience. Specialized knowledge of academic appointments and promotions process is required; ability to work independently and under pressure with the utmost confidentiality. Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills required. Familiarity with database reports essential.
A minimum of 5 years in direct supervisory or management positions. Excellent communications skills, both oral and written. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of faculty and staff. High-level internal communications with Department Chairs, Center Directors, faculty and other high-ranking administrators of the University.

-Broad knowledge of academic appointments required.
-Current knowledge of, or ability to rapidly understand CUMC and University policy and provide guidance to MSPH-FA staff members
-Experience managing a customer-focused operations unit
-Superior communicator at all levels through both written and verbal channels
-Ability to build knowledge of business processes and approaches and drive understanding among stakeholders
-Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook
PeopleSoft or similar software
-Strong Project Management Skills, including managing scope, risk, and budget for implementation/organizational transformation projects
-Experience identifying appropriate metrics and key performance indicators to drive improvement
-Demonstrated success in large team creation, development and management
-Able to manage conflicting demands, organize priorities, and make informed judgments
-Manage academic personnel relations, provide conflict resolution and solve problems
-Ability to promote cultural change and foster an environment of continuous improvement
-Detail oriented and able to multi-task and prioritize and work with diplomacy
-Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills
-Ability to analyze procedures, processes, and team oriented tasks to reduce redundancy, build efficiency, and ultimately increase productivity of staff
