The Interim Director, Nursing Programs responsibilities include maintaining legal requirements and standards conforming to the General Statutes of NC, the NC Nursing Practice Act and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; providing leadership in curriculum development, implementation and overall effectiveness of the Associate Degree Nursing Program (ADN) and Practical Nursing Program; assisting in hiring, orienting, supervising, and evaluating faculty; participating in College activities and committees; scheduling faculty and clinical sites for instructional purposes. The ADN program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and is approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON). This position reports directly to the Associate Dean, School of Health, Wellness, and Public Safety. The Interim Director, Nursing Programs has the following responsibilities:
Promotes College mission, values, and vision
Manages processes that foster student learning, effective teaching, and meaningful curriculum of study resulting in achievement of identified outcomes
Facilitates communication among members of the program and other programs within the school and College
Provides leadership in recruiting, hiring, orienting, coaching, mentoring, and evaluating faculty and staff, including adjunct faculty
Maintains compliance with standards and legal requirement in conformance with the General Statutes of North Carolina, the North Carolina Nursing Practice Act and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission
Coordinates teaching assignments and course schedules
Facilitates and approves the selection of textbooks and learning resources for nursing courses
Prepares budget requests and manages resources for Nursing Programs in collaboration with nursing faculty and Associate Dean
Provides leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the nursing curriculum including processes for external accreditation
Explores opportunities for additional clinical resources and coordinates processes for contract initiation and renewal.
Participates and involves Nursing Faculty in public relations, recruitment, and the development of policies and procedures related to the nursing programs including admission policies and procedures
Represents College Nursing programs and Davidson County Community College at local and state events
Responds to requests for information from students, faculty, staff, and members of the community
Maintains licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
Performs other duties as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College
Required: Master's Degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution Minimum of nine semester hours of Nursing Education coursework or equivalent Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina Minimum of two calendar years of full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a Registered Nurse Minimum of two years experience teaching nursing at or above the associate degree level Skill in the use of computers and commitment to use of technology Experience with MS Office 2007 Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to work effectively and collegially with others Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:

Preferred: Experience using problem-based learning as an instructional method Master's Degree in nursing with a functional emphasis in nursing education Experience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methods
