Sangre de Cristo Electric Association, Inc. provides electricity to approximately 13,000 consumers in the rugged Rocky Mountains of central Colorado. This Staking Technician III employee provides immediate supervision, direction and scheduling of staking work and performs all staking technician I and II tasks.
This position involves working near potentially lethal voltages of electricity. The job is performed outdoors and in an office environment. The job requires the ability to operate vehicles and office machines including personal, laptop and tablet computers. The position requires the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds, sometimes repetitively, and requires outside work in all weather conditions. This position may require extended periods of standing, walking, and working in cramped or uncomfortable positions. Clear and understandable verbal communication in English is required in person, by phone, and on the radio. Adequate writing, spelling, and grammar skills are required for written communications in English. Adequate eyesight is required for driving, meter work, housekeeping, and for other job aspects. This position requires the completion of paperwork for scheduling, employee performance reviews, training, and other supervisory duties. This position also entails frequent consumer contact.
The staking technician III position requires a valid Colorado driver's license. Safety?toed footwear with leather uppers will be worn on the job. Safety eyewear, fire resistant clothing, hard hat and rubber gloves (supplied by Sangre de Cristo) will be worn as required by Association safety rules.
1. High school graduate and two years of technical school education in an applicable discipline is required to provide the reading, writing, mathematics, communications, and social skills necessary to perform the job. Work experience may be considered in lieu of specified education. 2. Post-secondary education in surveying, electrical principles and/or structural design is desirable. 3. Computer literacy is required to make full use of the Association’s staking software and other systems.
B. Experience and job knowledge
1. Two years of experience as a staking technician II or related work experience is required. 2. Must meet all experience and job knowledge requirements of staking technician I and staking technician II. 3. Knowledge of RUS construction specifications and their application in practice is required. Also required are working knowledge of the National Electric Code and the National Electric Safety Code; a working knowledge and understanding of electrical theory and related mathematics;
These duties encompass the primary purpose of this position. The staking technician III directs, supervises and personally carries out the following duties.
A. Supervises or personally prepares staking sheets for the electric distribution system in accordance with RUS and Association specifications. Works closely with Association consumers to determine line placement and power needs.
B. Supervises or personally prepares material lists and construction cost estimates.
C. Supervises maintenance of records required to keep track of work orders, consumer locations, and constructions costs, etc.
D. Supervises or personally conducts field surveying and staking operations associated with work order procedures.
E. Answers consumer questions and complaints by telephone, in writing or in person.
F. Investigates billing discrepancies.
G. Maintains current knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC) and reports any known hazards.
H. Maintains current knowledge of technical changes in system equipment and design; advises management regarding implementation of new products or equipment.
I. Attends annual meetings and other Association meetings as directed.
Primary supervisory duties include:
J. Enforces observance, by all employees under his supervision, of all Association safety rules and regulations.
K. Supervises the proper maintenance of tools, work equipment, and transportation equipment used by staking personnel.
L. Completes employee performance evaluations. Schedules vacations and other employee absences in accordance with Association policy.
M. The supervisory responsibilities of this position do not include hiring and firing, although the staking technician III may be involved in those decisions.
In addition, the staking technician III is expected to deal with consumers and other employees in a cordial, businesslike manner in order to maintain positive public relations within and outside of the Association. The employee will treat all consumer information as confidential. This employee is expected to be familiar with Association and regulatory construction and safety guidelines in order to fulfill the required duties. The staking technician III is required to properly maintain and use all personal protection equipment required by law and by Association and regulatory agencies.
