Responsible for the development and execution of strategic communications for the Executive Dean, Heritage College and Chief Medical Affairs Officer, Ohio University. Assists and collaborates with the Heritage College Chief of Staff and Offices of External Relations and Communication, and communication staff in the Office of the President and University Communications and Marketing to provide direction for special events/engagements/situations involving the Executive Dean, Heritage College and Chief Medical Affairs Officer, Ohio University.
1.Communication Development: Plans and develops communications related to the college's/institution's strategic direction and annual goals to internal and external constituencies, faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, board members, trustees and others for the Executive Dean, Heritage College and Chief Medical Affairs Officer, Ohio University. Works with Heritage College and Ohio University personnel to articulate and promote the Heritage College Executive Dean's and Ohio University Chief Medical Affairs Officer's vision, plans, priorities, key messages, challenges and opportunities, and funding needs that are central to the short- and long-term efforts of the Heritage College Executive Dean and Ohio University Chief Medical Affairs Officer. Develops remarks/talking points and communiques/announcements/messages, correspondence for distribution and other materials to communicate key messages both internally and externally. Works with Heritage College Executive Dean's Office and Communication staff to develop, monitor and update content for the Heritage College Executive Dean's Office webpages and social media outlets. Works with communication staff in the Heritage College, the President's Office and University Communications and Marketing in developing content for materials in support of University and cross-college initiatives (such as the Opiate Task Force, health and medical innovations newsletter, and similar materials).
2.Strategic Communication Planning: Identifies strategic communication opportunities. Coordinates with the Heritage College Chief of Staff and Office of Communication to develop speeches and build presentations for internal and external audiences, draft quotes and prepare responses to interview questions (e.g., for radio and video interviews, articles for publication and similar), as well as other communication opportunities to advance the vision of the Heritage College Executive Dean and Ohio University Chief Medical Affairs Officer, and the mission of the college and university.
3.Special Events Direction and Board Support: Collaborate and coordinate with staff in the Offices of External Relations, Admissions and Student Affairs, Inclusion, Community Health Programs, Clinical Education, Research, and the Dublin and Cleveland campus deans in planning annual marquee events such as commencement and convocation and other special events involving the Heritage College Executive Dean and Ohio University Chief Medical Affairs Officer to ensure full preparation and excellence in presentation. Direct special events conceived of and hosted by the Heritage College Executive Dean; oversee planning and execution of these events and related communication/correspondence through direct supervision of the Heritage College Executive Events Manager. Support the Heritage College Chief of Staff in planning and staffing College Advisory Board meetings and annual board retreat; work with the Heritage College Chief of Staff to develop board meeting materials and meeting summaries and draft board communications.
4.Issues Management Communications: Coordinates with the appropriate Heritage College and Ohio University personnel to prepare and distribute communication of the Heritage College Executive Dean's and Ohio University Chief Medical Affairs Officer's positions and responses to issues and situations affecting the Heritage College and Ohio University, its faculty, staff, students and patients, alumni, donors, board members/trustees, partners and other constituents.
MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS: - Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field of study. - Must have a minimum of 5 years of work experience that is relative to the scope, functions, and responsibilities of this position. - Must have a minimum of 1 year of managerial or supervisory work experience. - Must be able to travel, most often locally or within the state of Ohio, but occasionally out of state to staff high-level events and board meetings.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS: - Completed a Master’s degree in Communication or related field of study. - Marketing and/or graphic design experience strongly preferred. - Understanding of and familiarity with applicable laws, in particular, FERPA, HIPAA and Ohio's Open Records Act strongly preferred.
