Assistant Professor of Media Studies

The Journalism, Broadcasting and Public Relations Department, a newly formed department, at The College at Brockport, State University of New York invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August, 2019. We seek a dynamic colleague to join our fast-growing department and we particularly welcome applications from scholars from populations historically underrepresented in the academy and/or who have experience working with diverse populations.
Major Responsibilities Teach three courses each semester at the undergraduate level; maintain an active program of scholarship in the area of Media Studies; advise and mentor students; and engage in service at the department, College, and/or professional levels. Teaching areas may include Fundamentals of Media; Media and Society; Film as Social Commentary; Communication Technology and Social Change; Theories of Mass Communication; Race, Gender and Media; and potential to develop courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
Doctorate in Communications or a related field required with expertise in media studies. ABD candidates will be considered but must earn their doctorate within 6 months of hire. Degree must be from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching, ability to teach media studies, ongoing scholarship, and the ability to teach a culturally diverse student population.
Experience teaching Media Studies courses. Ability to work with professional colleagues who utilize a variety of approaches to teaching and communication research.
