The Department of Communication Studies at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall semester 2019.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. (in hand by August 2019) in Communication Studies, a record of conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications that strongly indicates future success in scholarly research, evidence of excellent teaching, a record of service, and the ability to teach courses that will contribute to our undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Where appropriate, the candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues to advance the research mission of Sam Houston State University through pursuit of internal and external funding, strategic development initiatives, and collaborative partnerships.
Candidates' empirical research interests could include, but are not limited to, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication (and such issues as class, gender, sexuality, power), racial communication, ethnic communication, and new communication technologies from an interpersonal perspective.
The position will require teaching communication theory and research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative) classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. University-level teaching experience is desirable. Experience in online teaching is a positive qualification. The teaching load is three courses per semester including graduate teaching.

About the Department/University: Our department offers both a BA and BS in Communication Studies and an online MA in Communication Studies with a strong interpersonal communication focus. The department prepares students for a variety of fields, including teaching at all levels, public advocacy, public relations, governmental relations, ministry, and law. The department also offers an innovative communication research lab that supports a variety of faculty research programs.
