The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan (AAUM) has an exciting opening for a junior copywriter to join the Association’s innovative marketing and communications team.
The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is an organization that nurtures lifelong relationships with and among current and future Michigan alumni and the University. As a committed partner and supporter of the University, the Association offers programs of relevance and service to alumni. Underlying all that we do is the belief in the value of education to the well-being of society, and a commitment to integrity, diversity and service. Through partnerships with UM units, schools, and colleges, the Association is looking to expand the reach to Michigan alumni across the world to provide relevant programs that enable alumni connections and alumni success. Responsible for assisting in developing and executing conceptual, creative ideas through the written word that are on-brand, strategically sound, and market-driven.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with Art Director partner and the creative team to conceptualize creative executions.
Produce a portfolio of high-end written creative assets that can be used in various channels including print, video, display, direct mail, email, newsletters, magazine content, social media, website, and presentations.
Take initiative and contribute enthusiastically to the creative process.
Demonstrate attention to detail with an eye for concise, simple, clear communications.
Assess new technologies, standards and trends, and assist in strategy formulation for the most effective message delivery.
Make an ongoing commitment to improving writing skills and staying informed of innovative trends.
Must “own” a project; put your “all” into it and be responsible for understanding its purpose, and executing it within the agreed upon parameters.
Provide organizational leadership by demonstrating AAUM core values: All In, Serving Heart and Solution Seeker, and helping other staff members demonstrate those values.
Work with AAUM staff members to gain a clear and consistent understanding for the details of the strategic transformation and feel equal ownership of every piece of it, including pieces for which there is not direct responsibility.
Be inclusive and collaborative with every other member of the staff and every other team. Operate as a critical contributing member of the staff to complete objectives in many different areas in order to move the whole organization toward strategic transformation.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Support Alumni Association and marketing team vision.
Work collaboratively with those outside of the Marketing & Communications Department
Share knowledge through internal communications.
Remain current with respect to technology, trends and what other alumni associations are doing.
Participate on Alumni Association and other University committees as required.
Provide staff support to the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, its committee’s and other volunteers.
Attend appropriate team and staff meetings.
Staff team and Alumni Association events.
Represent Alumni Association at University and alumni functions.
Direct supervision is received from the Copy Supervisor.
May coordinate the work of some freelance staff.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or other relevant field
Experience in creative, conceptual writing.
Demonstrate interest in learning new technologies and approaches to projects.
Strong ability to think creatively, visualizing a story and producing engaging creative assets.
Work collaboratively with an Art Director partner, and with others to transform strategies and topics into engaging creative.
Demonstrate ability to organize, coordinate, and prioritize the work at hand to meet deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
Able to carry over learnings from one project to another
