With assets under administration of $145.6 billion, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of Canada’s largest institutional investors. Since its inception in 2000, BCI has grown significantly and is now regarded as one of Canada’s most influential financial institutions with a diverse and global mix of assets. The goal is to position the corporation to manage over $200 billion in assets over the coming years. With the growth of the corporation and the shift to manage more assets in-house and to expand into new and existing asset classes such as derivatives, private equity, infrastructure and real estate, BCI is at an exciting time in its history.
With the growth and transformation of the corporation, BCI recognizes the importance of expanding its communication function to align with the needs of an active in-house asset manager that provides investment services to its 31 institutional clients that have entrusted BCI to manage their capital. Furthermore, as BCI continues to increase its transaction and direct investment activity into private assets, strategic deal and investment communication leadership is needed. BCI has created a new role with a mandate to lead BCI’s external communications activities with a specific focus on transaction and investment communications.
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communication, the Manager, Investments & External Communication will take on a critical role tasked with developing and implementing deal and investments communication strategies to external stakeholders and clients. He/she will also oversee the issues management, media relations, website and publications portfolios. Overseeing a team of three, the Manager will work closely with the internal and client communication teams, relationship managers, asset classes, and other departments.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic communications professional with deep transaction/deal communications experience. This experience could have been gained: a) in an investment, private equity, infrastructure, real estate investment or other organization that that has extensive M&A activity; b) in a consulting capacity where he/she will have supported clients on investment and transaction communications; or c) as a transaction lawyer or investment professional with an interest and aptitude for communication. The new Manager must also be a superb verbal and written communicator, capable of presenting to and advising the most senior levels of the organization and at the Board level.
