The School of Communications at Grand Valley State University seeks applicants for a 9-month, full-time, Affiliate Faculty position in the Advertising/Public Relations program to begin January 2019. Individuals will be appointed for one academic year on a full-time basis. The initial appointment may be renewed once for an additional academic year, followed by three-year terms pending successful review.
Required Qualifications and Education: Applicants must possess a master’s degree in advertising/public relations, communications, or related field and significant professional experience in the advertising/public relations field.
Preferred Qualifications and Education: Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experience in the field of advertising and public relations, particularly in the areas of emerging technology and writing. Additionally, the ability to make strong connections in the community for project-based experiential learning is a plus. A record of active involvement in professional or academic communications associations is preferred.
Responsibilities – Essential Functions: The successful candidate will teach five (5) courses per semester across the advertising/public relations curriculum, with particular need for those able to teach technology in advertising and public relations, fundamentals, and writing.
Department/Division: The GVSU School of Communications (www.gvsu.edu/soc) places a premium on commitment to the integration of liberal and professional education. The School, located in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, offers a core of courses in communications, after which students select a major in Advertising/Public Relations (www.gvsu.edu/soc/apr),
Communication Studies, Health Communication, or Multimedia Journalism. The School also offers a Master’s in Communication. The School of Communications has more than 1,000 students, with 500 in Advertising and Public Relations.
