The Event and Screening Assistant will oversee all aspects of the Modern Culture and Media (MCM) events and screenings (both for classes and for MCM-sponsored events outside of our classes), acting as the point person for all such programming and planning and supporting both specific MCM courses and the general events that MCM puts on for Brown and Providence.
Associateâ™s Degree or specialized post-high school training, and 1-2 years of related experience in film, video, and digital media programming and curation or event planning, or the equivalent combination of education experience.
Demonstrated experience in handling 16mm film, DVD, videotape, streaming digital media, and other media formats as well as with the equipment for exhibiting these.
Demonstrated knowledge of film/media history as well as of new developments in film and media would be helpful both for course screening planning and for event conceptualization and organization.
Good communication, organization, planning, and problem-solving skills are essential, both for working with instructors and projectionists on class screenings and for working with event organizers and MCM staff on event planning.
A strong interest in media and media studies is important for energizing the work of screening and event coordinating.
Previous educational or work experience in both media programming and event planning is preferred.
Note: This position is scheduled to work during the 10 months of the academic year (September through May) with a work schedule of 2 pm - 8 pm or 3 pm - 9 pm, Monday through Friday.
