The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions (HCHDS): is dedicated to eliminating disparities in health and health care. The Center conducts multidisciplinary basic and translational research with the goals of advancing knowledge on the causes of health disparities, and developing programs and policy interventions to eliminate disparities.
The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions is currently seeking a Communications Coordinator who will be responsible for promoting the Center's research, practice and educational initiatives through written communications and visual content on the Center's website and social media platforms.
Specific Duties/ Responsibilities
Develop, manage and create webpages, including revising, reviewing, and updating existing content on the Center website
Promoting visibility of the Centers faculty, certificate program, events, research studies through both web and print by internal and external communications
Work closely with the Center faculty, staff and partnerships to write press releases on important findings from research studies conducted by Center faculty
Collect, write and upload Center news, promotional and award items
Create content for social networking events
Design printed materials, (flyers, brochures) to advertise or publicize center activities
Establish links on the website; verify content and formatting; integrate databases, text, artwork, video, etc.
Maintain working relationships with communications contacts at JHU schools, divisions and centers
Liaison with outside graphic and printing companies
Identify stories about the center, faculty, staff, students and alumni and produce written materials for electronic print, web, and video
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Public Affairs, Journalism or other related fields.
2 years related experience.
Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and Illustrator
Knowledge of and experience with web- based content management systems, coding and design software (HTML and CSS)
Experience working in Site Executive
Excellent written, verbal, web-based and social media skills
Possess strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Able to interact effectively with and direct external vendors
Previous photography experience preferred

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
