After 22 years, JACIL’s Executive Director is retiring. The Board of Directors is looking for a dynamic, experienced, and disability--oriented leader to join our organization.
JACIL is a consumer-focused, non-profit organization that provides direct services and advocacy to persons with disabilities as well as informing and educating the community about our mission and services provided as a Center for Independent Living (CIL). JACIL is located in an urban/rural area in the City of Jacksonville, Illinois. JACIL was established in 1997 and is one of 22 CILs operating in Illinois. JACIL serves four counties with approximately 66,000 residents.
A. JOB SUMMARY: The Executive Director, under the general direction of the Board of Directors, is responsible for providing strategic leadership and managing JACIL’s day-to-day operations. The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of the organization including fiscal and financial management; personnel; community relations; and program development. The Executive Director is expected to manage the organization so that JACIL’s Mission and Independent Living Philosophy are reflected in all services provided and in all consumer interactions.
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to rehabilitation/human services or commensurate experience in not-for-profit administration.

A keen understanding of the Independent Living Philosophy
Knowledge and understanding of disability rights and independent living issues
Knowledge and understanding of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/voluntary organizations
Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state regulations that apply to CIL’s
Knowledge and understanding of current community challenges and opportunities that face the organization
Knowledge and understanding of human resources management
Knowledge and understanding of financial management and budgeting
Successful grant writing experience
Knowledge and understanding of programmatic development and implementation
Proven public relations and marketing skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficient in all applicable computer applications
Special Consideration given to candidates with:
Master’s Degree in a field related to rehabilitation/human services
Excellent leadership skills
Excellent financial and managerial skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent problem-solving skills
Excellent collaboration skills
Excellent fundraising skills
Personal effectiveness, credibility, and integrity
COMPENSATION Starting Salary is negotiable based on educational background and relevant work experience.
This position requires travel. Travel is often within the four-county service area, however, it may sometimes be outside the local area and may sometimes require overnight accommodations, depending on business needs.
