In conjunction with the Center’s Director and key affiliates, the incumbent will coordinate the programs to be run by UMBC’s new Center for Social Science Scholarship. The incumbent will have particular responsibility for running the Social Science Forum and its associated activities, including managing logistics and scheduling, and will participate in planning and implementing other Center-related events and programs, such as faculty microtalks, partner events, public events on and off campus, grants workshops and grant-sponsored activities and other programs to be determined that will support social science scholarship at UMBC. Specific duties include: participating in planning and implementing the Center’s communications, social media and public relations activities, including updating its website, implementing its social media campaign, and implementing outreach activities using Mailchimp and other resources; creating and coordinating the content, design, and dissemination of digital and/or print-based communications and other associated PR materials; assessing and evaluating event attendance and success; developing performance metrics and analyzing social media data to gauge effectiveness of communications; gathering information, managing, and providing support for the Center’s projects, including internal awards and related initiatives; managing the Center’s finances, including budgeting and financial tracking in Quickbooks; reconciling all accounts monthly; creating periodical Budget vs. Actual reports; receiving and transferring funds for various subprograms; performing personnel and payroll duties in Peoplesoft; purchasing and managing P-card and D-card; reconciling and reporting on all financial accounts; answering telephones; meeting and greeting visitors; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in a social science or other related field. Requires two years' experience in coordinating programs and/or events.
The successful candidate must be able to: work both independently and on a team; generate and execute creative ideas; collaborate effectively with staff, faculty, and external constituents; and manage multiple concurrent tasks. The successful candidate must also: be detail oriented; possess excellent written, communication, and organizational skills; and function efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced Center environment. Must be familiar with computer software applications including Microsoft Office, Adobe, Google Calendar, Google Forms, shared online file storage such as Box, Wordpress, Pages, and email marketing platforms such as MailChimp. Comprehensive knowledge of social media platforms required.
Master's degree preferred
Experience in coordinating programs and/or events in higher education.
Prior experience with public relations and website content design preferred.
Prior experience with program budgeting and reporting, including PeopleSoft, Rex Financial, and Quickbooks, is highly desirable.
HTML or other web design skills a plus.
