Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University seeks qualified applicants for a Communications Specialist II position. This position will write and manage content for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and departments in the college, with a heavy emphasis on STEM writing. This includes the research, production, editing, and management of content for digital and print media. Content includes articles, feature stories, press releases, web content, social media content, internal communications, and other prose. Responsibilities also include serving as editor for college or department magazines, which includes project management, editing and writing. The Communications Specialist II will contribute content and post to the college and departmental websites. Responsibilities also include occasional basic photography and publication development.
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal writing, editing and organizational skills. In addition, the candidate will have the ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, alumni and staff. The successful candidate will be comfortable with and able to synthesize complex scientific research for general public consumption.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, English, or technical communication;
Professional experience writing about research or science-related subjects;
Experience maintaining websites, preferably Word Press;
Experience writing and editing feature-length and web-based content;
Experience writing content that meets specific communications goals;
