Under the direction of the Assistant Dean, School of Continuing Studies, the Pathway Specialist is responsible for integrating career and professional development into the academic experience. The incumbent will perform a wide range of counseling, programming, employer relations, enrollment, and administrative functions. The Pathway Specialist must have a strong understanding of not only demographics, but of industry and the career/education pathways within those industries in order to assist students in specific career fields.
Student Advisement Present SCS programs to potential students, regardless of enrollment pipeline, as degree pathways with multiple onboarding opportunities and degree progression within fields of study/industry sectors.
Meet departmental outreach and enrollment goals in conjunction with Assistant Dean of Admissions and Community Outreach.
Assist students in identifying their personal and professional goals through tailored enrollment coaching that aligns to student career and professional goals.
Expertly assist prospective students through the various career enrollment options and funding sources to support their educational goals.
Demonstrate deep knowledge of employment/career/labor trends and the skills and knowledge required for field/industry success when working to support prospective students through the enrollment process.
Provide employment and job market statistics to prospective students.
Work with students in specific career fields, across student audiences to build pipelines of qualified applicants across and within specific industry sectors.
Utilize the Radius's customer relations management system to track, communicate, and generate reports related prospective students.
Use data analytics to ensure pathway funnels that support the enrollment goals.
Design and deliver training career pathway sessions in partnership with employers to prospective students.
Participate in continued research, bench-marking, and employer communication to ensure the University is using current, effective strategies.
Design and participate in career fairs and professional development events.
Bachelor degree in counseling, business, human resources, marketing, public relations, education or related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum two years of experience in career counseling and/or human resources and training and development.
Considerable knowledge of local, state, and federal rules and regulations, local college academic and high school completion requirements.
Considerable knowledge of subject area and faculty issues.
Knowledge of assessment, testing, and the interpretation and application of test results.
Knowledge of available college and community resources and/or programs.
Demonstrated experience in developing and presenting workshops and/or classes.
Skill in effective advising and counseling techniques.
Ability to work with at-risk and culturally diverse populations.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work in an environment with regular interruptions.
Ability to communicate effectively using well-developed written and verbal skills to present and exchange complex academic information to a diverse set of individuals and groups.
Two years teaching experience with young adults (preferably in high school or community college setting).
Minimum two years of experience working with at-risk youth ages 16 to 21.
Minimum two years of experience working in an academic environment, preferably alternative education.
Demonstrated competency in organizing data, maintaining files, and preparing reports.
Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with multiple groups.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Demonstrated efficiency using various computer applications and the University Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems.
Ability to manage and organize detailed information about the program and student progress.
Ability to work varying times, including early mornings, nights and weekends, to meet required timelines and accommodate the needs of partnering student organizations, evening classes, and recruitment activities.
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor during emotionally charged situations and explain policies and procedures, rules, and regulations in a non-threatening manner.
Preferred Qualifications: One year of experience with academic advising in a high school or college setting.
One year of case management experience.
Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflicts.
Demonstrated effective classroom management skills with young adults.
Minimum three years demonstrated experience working with diverse populations (e.g., cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, gender, sexual orientation, religious, etc.).
Specialized knowledge of grant and contract administration, grant preparation, educational program planning, and analysis of program performance.
Experience planning and implementing programs, including administration of daily operations.
