The Office of Communications and Marketing seeks to hire astrategic communicator to join the media relations team as a public relationsspecialist. Our team works with senior administrators, faculty, staff, anddepartments to generate news and feature stories to advance the university'sstrategic goals.
PR specialists are responsible for writing and distributingnews releases, feature stories, and messages for various internal and externalaudiences. They develop stories and media plans that highlight faculty and studentresearch expertise and impact; build and maintain trusting relationships withreporters; pitch UT experts as leading sources for local and national media; writefor electronic newsletters and other in-house publications; help managepositive and negative publicity for individuals and units within the university;help with issues management and emergency communications as needed; providetraining for faculty, staff, and students on talking points and mediaappearances; prepare monthly reports of story successes and placement foradministrators, deans, department heads, and advisory boards; and mentorinterns.
This person may also be called upon to help publicizeevents, oversee media covering events, and help the campus events director runevents.
