SUMMARY: The Assistant Director's primary role is to develop alumni relations and coordinate campus ceremonies to bring alumni together in support of IU South Bend and one another. This position supports Commencement, the Alumni of the Year ceremony, and the Alumni Scholarship Program, among a variety of unit events and activities. Responsible for communications from the Office of Alumni Relations and working with the IU South Bend Alumni Association Board of Directors. Also, collaborates with the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of Advancement for cultivation and stewardship of donors. Reports to the Director, Alumni Affairs and Campus Ceremonies.
Manages events, including planning, presenting, and evaluating.
Assists the Director in planning Commencement and other campus ceremonies.
Creates and distributes marketing materials and communications for Office of Alumni Relations.
Assists in creative programing that engages alumni and students.
Raises funds for university, primarily for Alumni Scholarship Program, to meet goals set by Advancement.
Provides direction and staff support for the Board of Directors of the IU South Bend Alumni Association.
Attends meetings for IU Alumni Association and IU Foundation on other campuses several times a year.
Collaborates with various departments, faculty, staff, and the community to support alumni programming and philanthropic initiatives.
Maintains Social Media presence & Website content.
Manages data requests from Campus faculty and staff using alumni database.
Supervises student worker and workflow.
Process financial transactions for membership, event income, etc.
Directs all operations of the Alumni Relations Office in the Director's absence.
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of two years' experience in public relations, marketing, or fundraising in a higher education environment or not-for-profit organization. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience in planning and organizing events.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
Experience with social media networks (and database software preferred).
Ability to work with a diverse population including volunteers, on and off campus.
Ability to make effective decisions in the absence of the Alumni Director.
Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
Exceptional Customer Service skills.
Outgoing individual with relationship building abilities.
A valid driver's license is required or ability to travel to and from other IU campuses, meetings, events, etc.
