CMS is looking for a communications professional who is interested in merging the exciting world of strategic communications with healthcare policy.
This challenging and highly visible career opportunity is in CMS’ Office of Communications located in Washington, DC. You will be a key member of the leadership team spearheading both internal and external communications efforts on behalf of the Agency. Communications efforts include strategic communications planning; media and public relations; traditional, digital and social media outreach; social marketing campaigns and print or multimedia publications development and dissemination. You will also oversee interactions with stakeholders, including external advocacy groups, HHS leadership, other CMS components, and other Federal government entities.
Leading the external communications program for the organization;
Advising senior level officials on a range of communications strategies and public affairs issues; and
Leading/managing the work of project teams
This position offers a unique opportunity to provide direction for project teams developing materials to equip more than 140 million Americans to make informed decisions about their health care or about their benefits, rights, and responsibilities within CMS programs.

In order to qualify for the GS-15, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) leading the external communications program for an organization; (2) advising senior level officials on a range of communications strategies and public affairs issues; and (3) leading or managing the work of project teams.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
