The senior director of communication position will lead efforts in advancement communications, internal communications, media relations, community relations, NOW: The Magazine of LeTourneau University and coordination of presidential communications. This position will be a part of the University Communications and Marketing leadership team and will work closely with all campus partners, including close partnership with the University Advancement team.
Lead all strategic communication initiatives in direct support of brand, enrollment and advancement efforts.
Partner with the vice president for marketing and communications and the vice president for development in leading all external advancement communication efforts which includes: planned giving, annual giving, estate planning, corporate/foundation giving, donor stewardship, major giving, principle giving, alumni relations, parent relations, Center for Faith & Work, and campaign communications.
Build, express and position the cases for giving at LeTourneau University and the impact of time, talent and treasure investments.
Coordinate presidential communications for each academic year. Works closely with the Vice President for Marketing and Communications with the planning, development and platforms for on and off-campus remarks, thought leadership, higher education, executive webpages, presidential blog, and overall digital presence.
Lead a strategic and engaging internal communications program. The program will include but not be limited to advancing workplace health, a God-honoring workplace, employee engagement, brand training, and brokering interdisciplinary and collaborative opportunities to connect the LeTourneau University brand to key stakeholders.
Build and lead an active and robust community relations program in communities where LeTourneau University has a physical presence. Those locations would include Longview, Houston, Dallas, Plano and McKinney. The program will include but not be limited to serving as a communication liaison with the President’s Advisory Council, active participation and leadership within local organizations that include the Chamber of Commerce, government relations, neighborhood revitalization, and economic development.
Build and lead an earned media program that includes local, regional, national and specialized media platforms. The program will include but not be limited to positioning the LeTourneau University brand in print, digital, radio, TV, journals and other professional outlets.
Manage the LeTourneau University digital newsroom.
Create a robust experts and speakers guide that is made up of faculty, staff and alumni.
Serve as the senior university spokesperson.
Strategically align external communications efforts with key recruiting and enrollment markets.
Serve as the managing editor of NOW: The Magazine of LeTourneau University.
Content contributor to NOW and other Letourneau University brand affiliated platforms.
Collaborates with the Vice President for Marketing and Communications, Senior Director of Marketing and Creative Director to develop strategic marketing and communications initiatives to advance LeTourenau University.
Build and lead the communication flow for the university. This includes the writing and editing of strategic communications to be sent to various university constituencies, the development of an editorial calendar, and the effective regular delivery of print and digital campaigns to tens of thousands of constituents.
Collaborates on policies for campus use of brand and communications resources.
Directly supervises the Director of University Relations.
Assists in contract negotiations with brand vendors.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field. Master’s degree preferred, but not required. Extensive experience in fundraising communications, media relations, community relations, employee communications and executive communications is required. A robust portfolio of experience and extensive knowledge of higher education and related industries is necessary for this position. Professional accreditations are preferred, but not required. Media relationships in local, regional, national and professional markets is a plus.
Demonstrated excellence in project management and a high degree of innovation and creativity; excellent in analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills for communications architecture; strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; the ability to successfully integrate and contribute as a part of a multidisciplinary team; desire to work in a fast-paced work environment; and the ability to quickly learn and integrate new tools and technologies to meet university and marketplace needs.
