To plan, oversee, and participate in the technical and administrative functions of the Independent Testing Laboratory(ITL) including overseeing laboratory budgets, prioritizing its workload, working with faculty and staff, and supervising student and non-student assistants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee and perform analyses using Laboratory and other University instrumentation.
Coordinate the day-to-day operational activities of the laboratory and supervise the Test Lab student employees.
Maintain laboratory equipment in good order.
Ensure the appropriate planning and management of the test resources to meet the goals of the lab.
Develop and implement good laboratory practices.
Develop and implement good accounting procedures for test sample flow through the laboratory and billing of hours against purchase orders.
Liaise with users to insure timely response to needs.
Order laboratory supplies acquisition and monitor budget expenditures.
Make recommendations regarding future needs and capabilities of the laboratory
Interview and recommend employment of student assistants.
Prepare work schedules, assign testing duties and coordinate training of student assistants.
Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase the number of ITL customers.
Prepare for, attain, and maintain appropriate laboratory accreditation/certification requirements in coordination with the Dean.
Documenting and communicating the testing capabilities of the lab.
Work closely with the Dean of Science, Engineering and Technology, Dean of College of Business & Management and Director of the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center - Northeast to further develop industry and business relationships.
Work in close conjunction with the faculty and staff of the science and engineering departments to retain students who are trained in a variety of analytical testing techniques.
Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's degree in science or engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. A Master's degree is preferred.
A demonstrated record of potential for progressive laboratory management is required.
Reasonable knowledge of university policies and good laboratory practices is desirable.
Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with or without accommodations.
