The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). The successful candidate will be hired as a full-time tenured Associate Professor or Professor in the Department depending upon experience.

The University of Alberta’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, one of three departments in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, is among the largest Speech-Language Pathology training programs in Canada with 10 faculty members, 7 Academic Teaching Staff, and approximately 114 students. This is an exciting opportunity to lead an already outstanding department to the next level of excellence. The successful candidate will facilitate the continued strengthening of the Department's exemplary research and training programs, strategically position the Department for success through maintaining and enhancing partnerships with external constituencies and play a role in public relations and fundraising in addition to scholarly and leadership activities. The CSD Department offers a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MScSLP), a two-year program designed to provide students with the academic and clinical skills required to be eligible for certification through Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) and registration or licensure by provincial regulatory bodies. In addition, members of the CSD department are actively involved in the MSc and PhD degree programs in Rehabilitation Science offered through the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.
The successful candidate must have a record of outstanding leadership, with the management and leadership capabilities to provide vision and direction to strengthen the department’s superior educational programs, research innovation and clinical service as well as national and international reputation. In addition, the successful candidate must be a proven leader who has demonstrated the ability to engage and inspire faculty and staff, facilitate alignment of goals and vision, be known for embracing a highly collegial and collaborative operating style, and possessing excellent communication skills.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and a distinguished academic record in teaching, research and service.
