Job Requisition Number: 24960. Involves instructional activities related to recreation, leisure, and fitness in an accredited environment; provides first aid and emergency care as necessary, and responds to user/customer needs. Central support role to develop and implement the boating programs for Cal Adventures including planning, scheduling, and implementing a wide variety of outdoor programs such as sailing, windsurfing, sea kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, powerboating, and other outdoor activities. Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising personnel for Cal Adventures’ outdoor activities. Oversees management, development, design, and logistical planning of custom educational programs, and related work as required.
This position works with all members of the Cal Adventures management team to ensure that all trips and classes are properly outfitted and supported with necessary and appropriate staff, equipment and vehicles. The Boating Programs Manager also plays a major role in the overall Cal Adventures risk management efforts.
•Supervises employee performance, career development and adherence to job standards. Selects, trains and supervises staff. •Plans, organizes and implements boating programs. Oversees activities for groups of participants in a variety of social, cultural, recreational and physical activities. Creates and Implements program policies and procedures. Assists with appropriate public relations and promotion of programs. Maintains files, records and prepares reports as necessary. •Responsible for ensuring that all program activities comply with Campus Risk Management Policies and Industry Standard. Reports safety issues to appropriate personnel and recommends improvements. •Participates in required professional development activities. •Inventory equipment and supplies necessary to maintain and conduct all boating programs. Train employees on the safe use of equipment. Establish a schedule of periodic maintenance for all equipment. Ensure that all programs are issued the necessary equipment to execute the program as scheduled. Oversee the inventory and storage of all boating equipment. Work with Fleet Services in carrying out UC policies for the registration of boats and trailers. •Ensures compliance with assigned budget and makes budget recommendations to manager for assigned activities/programs.•Has demonstrated knowledge of boating program activities and related industry best practices. •Proficient in at least two of the boating program areas (preferably 3 or more).Demonstrated leadership and inter-personal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally. •Strong service orientation, program management, sound judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, develop original ideas, creative problem solving skills in a varied and challenging environment. •Must be able to work effectively, across all organization levels, internally and externally. •Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking. •Must have demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. •Must be proficient in the use of basic computer applications (email, MS Word, MS Excel, etc . •Must be able to successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check. •Extensive previous experience in boating instruction. (youth and adult participants). •Previous experience operating a powerboat of less than 20’. •Excellent leadership and facilitation skills. •Previous experience building a curriculum for credited college level courses (preferred). •Previous experience supervise staff.
Education/Training: •Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Licenses or certifications: •Red Cross CPR/AED •Standard First Aid Training Certification •Must be able to obtain a California Class B license.
