Associate Director, Foundation & Corporate Relations

The Associate Director, Foundation & Corporate Relations will work the University's professional schools to build relationships with and solicit funding from philanthropic organizations. The Associate Director will work with faculty and staff at the Harris School of Public Policy, School of Social Service Administration, University of Chicago Law School, Booth School of Business, and other units to understand their applied social science research and programmatic priorities, and with foundations and corporations to obtain funding for aligned projects.
Plan and implement initiatives to introduce and extend the University's funding for impact initiatives through our professional schools, including the Harris School of Public Policy, the School of Social Service Administration, University of Chicago Law School, the Booth School of Business, and others.
Collaborate with manager to analyze foundation and corporate interests and assess opportunities to engage these on-campus groups.
Pursue organizational philanthropy for designated University programs.
Identify new ways to promote, cultivate and steward foundation engagement across campus.
Work with senior leadership and colleagues University-wide to define projects for presentation to foundations and corporations.
Develop and maintain relationships with organizational program officers, faculty and administrators to support initiatives.
Represent programs to constituencies both inside and outside the University.
Synthesize the interests and philanthropic capabilities of constituencies with the needs and long-term goals of the University.
Prepare and manage the preparation of complex documents such as proposals, reports and non-routine correspondence.
Draft proposals and approve final edits.
Prepare correspondence and other materials for senior administrative leaders and faculty.
Manage execution of multiple projects concurrently, enlisting support of other staff where appropriate.
Assist in developing department objectives and strategies.
Develop tactics to meet individual and group goals.
Develop and monitor strategies for assigned corporations and foundations.
Identify emerging program areas with funding promise and assist in the development of new projects.
Participate in general departmental direction and take responsibility for interactions with specific divisions.
Assist the faculty in defining programs and budgetary needs for presentation to corporate foundations.
Apply appropriate technologies and skills for data gathering, manipulation and management. Use Griffin (the University's proprietary database) and other databases to support the progress of foundation and corporate initiatives across campus and to represent strategies to the community of colleagues.
Maintain a working knowledge of foundations and corporations in assigned portfolio.
Participate in professional associations to gain knowledge of programs and practices at nonprofit organizations locally and nationally.
Maintain familiarity with the various components of a development office and with the role of foundation and corporate relations in that larger effort.
Articulate and represent the University's position in higher education.
Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance, including building networks within the University and with colleagues at peer institutions.

Education, Experience or Certifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher required.
A minimum of three years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales, or similar professional work experience required.
A minimum of one year of experience leading a project team or managing staff preferred.
A minimum of one year of experience developing proposals and proposal budgets preferred.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to the Office of Alumni Relations and Development, including Griffin (the University's Donor Relationship Management System), Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Demonstrated experience in philanthropy or program development preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Willingness and ability to travel to campus and/or non-campus locations for University business.
Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends.
