The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Communications Manager. This position will work with the Vice President of Communications and liaise with other departments to craft the story of the DSO internally and externally through a variety of channels. Primary areas of responsibilities include media relations, social media, program books, artist/orchestra relations, video and other media.
Specifically relating to media relations, the Communications Manager will cultivate relationships with local critics, media and writers; pitch stories, coordinate interviews, prepare advance material; arrange photo shoots and fulfill media requests for stories; and steward TV and radio tapings to represent the DSO.
The Communications Manager will lead the social media presence of the DSO through by managing social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube; coordinating content ideas and acquisition with internal DSO departments; arranging content with guest artists; scheduling content dissemination and owning social media calendar; and evaluating and reporting social media successes and suggesting improvements.
Responsibilities dealing with program books include managing and editing content for monthly program book; commissioning and editing program annotations with off-site annotator; liaising with development, artistic and marketing teams for aggregation of content; submitting content to off-site printer for layout; coordinating internal DSO vetting with all departments for final approval while also communicating changes to printer; occasional writing of feature stories or liaising with freelancers; gathering content and submitting to Marketing Department for other programs as needed.
The Communications Manager with handle artist/orchestra relations: contacting guest artists prior to arrival in Dallas for media coverage and coordinating on-the-ground interviews in Dallas, especially for the DSO WRR radio broadcast.
Additionally, the Communication Manager will assist VP of Communications in development of promotional video planning, budgeting, storyboarding and editing; coordinate and attend video and photo shoots; coordinating with production team on final video delivery and dissemination; assisting VP of Communications in other forms of video/audio such as streaming, simulcasting and Facebook Live.

The successful candidate will have at least 2 years’ experience in media relations, social media management or at a public relations firm and a BA in a related field. Writing samples will be required. Knowledge of classical music is recommended but not required. Nights, weekends and early morning hours will be required on occasion.
