Provide direct patient care and education for division endocrine patients and their families.� Will see patients both independently and in collaboration with the division’s faculty providers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend endocrine clinic sessions of physicians assisting in the patient flow process.
Perform independent advance practice services as outlined by the state of Missouri and working within the scope of practice as outlined by the state of Missouri.
Provide initial office visit consults as defined by office practice
Provide return patient appointments as defined by office practice
Provide telephone advice for outpatients.
Initiate pharmaceutical regimen for diagnosis as defined by office practice
Order diagnostic testing as indicated
Responsible for renewing or adjusting patient prescriptions.
Provide individual or small group education to initiate use of growth hormone therapy.
Serves as a role model, mentor and preceptor for staff and nurses.
Displays excellent communication, organization, leadership and interpersonal skills.
Functions related to patient office visits
Provide direct patient care including obtaining history, performing physical exam, and assist in developing treatment plan for patient.� Convey findings to physician as needed.� Perform dictation of letter of service as communication to the primary care physician.
Coordinate patient care, order diagnostic tests, and convey findings and plan to physician and division team as necessary.
Assist physicians and provide support with education, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.� Assist with referrals to outside sources.
Intercede as needed for issues regarding insurance coverage.
Provide and review the educational materials for patients and families as it pertains to their diagnosis.
Perform a variety of nursing administrative duties including compliance with environmental safety regulations, infection control standards and quality assurance.
Function as a community resource educator.
Act as liaison and team leader by facilitating communication and coordination of care between patients, families and health team members.� Explain routines and procedures to patients and coordinate patients care information to appropriate sources.
Functions for academic office time
Review and prioritize phone messages triaged by secretarial staff.� Implement and explain to the patients their plan of care based on directives from the attending physician/available medical records.
Coordinate and follow up on diagnostic tests, lab studies, consults, procedures, home health agencies, and pharmacies on campus and with other outside facilities.
Promote and maintain good public relations with patients and families.� Act as a liaison between other departments.
Provide education to the patients and family regarding interpretation of lab results, diagnostic testing, medical treatments, therapies and diagnosis.
Facilitate growth within the Endocrine/Diabetes division by assisting and participation in the development of specialized programs and clinic.
Maintain compliance with OSHA infection control standards and quality assurance.
Enhancement of professional development by attending and participating in appropriate meetings, in-services and educational programs.
Coordinate tasks with office staff related to correspondence, insurance authorizations, etc., as needed.
Functions for Transition Clinic
Collaborate with pediatric and adult team to provide care of the transitioning patient.
Provide direct patient care.
Coordinate with team to develop needed educational tools.
Act as a liaison to young adult patients.
Current MSN with emphasis in the Nurse Practitioner program.
APN licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within 3 months of date of hire; Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.).
Holds current certification in patient care field and required specialty
The hiring range for this position is $37.57 - $52.60 per hour.
