James Madison College seeks to fill an Assistant Professor Tenure-Stream position in political economy and political theory with a focus on state and marketplace interaction and the history of modern commercial democracy. The position fills a commitment to infuse economics training with a major that focuses on modern constitutional democracy (its origins, practice, critics, and defenders) from the perspective of political philosophy. Potential areas of research and teaching focus include feminist theory, religion and economics, family and gender issues in the workplace, and federalism, as such issues complement the study of constitutional structure and modern capitalism.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to teach courses on state and market interaction as well as core courses in the history of political thought. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in an interdisciplinary program and to achieving a substantial record of scholarship. Ph.D. in a related field is required by time of appointment.
Required Application Materials
Applicants should supply a statement addressing how their teaching and research interests would contribute to the Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy curriculum specifically and to James Madison College’s curriculum and mission more broadly. Supporting materials should include a CV, transcript, evidence of teaching approach and effectiveness, sample syllabi, and a sample of scholarship (e.g., dissertation chapter, article, conference paper).
