Assistant Directors of Admission are primarily responsible for the recruitment, evaluation and selection of applicants to the College of Brown University. These positions are also responsible for planning and leading special projects associated with recruitment, evaluation and matriculation of students.
Responsibilities include recruiting applicants by initiating and maintaining communication with alumni/ae, college counselors, community based organizations, secondary school students and their parents; developing public presentations to promote Brown and to explain the admission process; and encouraging accepted students to matriculate. Assistant Directors contribute to the evaluation and selection of applicants by examining applicantsâ™ credentials and providing written evaluation and analysis; presenting credentials to the Board of Admission with recommended action and participate by voting in final decisions. Assistant Directors coordinate admission efforts with other departments and programs on campus/special projects, including Visit Brown coordination and primary liaison with Bruin Club; liaison with music and art departments for slideroom reviews; matriculation events coordination (ADOCH); athletics liaison, and travel grant coordination.
Bachelorâ™s Degree and three or more years of experience in admission, preferably at a selective institution
Strong oral and written communication skills
Sensitivity to concerns of people of different ages and backgrounds
Willingness and ability to work both independently and with groups
Creativity, efficiency, flexibility, open-mindedness, good judgment
Ability to work long hours
Ability to travel
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
First-hand knowledge of major issues facing American colleges and universities
Understanding of Brown and its academic standards
