Reporting to the Harvard Global Health Institute's Executive Director and drawing upon resources from the university's Office of Public Affairs and Communications, the Communications Manager will serve as a key leader for the Institute working closely with the Institute's Executive Director, Faculty Director, and staff to increase the visibility of the Institute and maximize its impact among various constituencies and stakeholders.
The Communications Manager will support the development and execution of a communication strategy for HGHI. S/he will assess the communication and branding needs of the Institute and advise the Executive Director and Faculty Director on all issues and opportunities related to internal and exteranll communications for the Institute. The Communications Manager will interact with diverse audiences both internal and external to Harvard to deliver consistent program messaging and branding across all HGHI initiatives; manage a broad set of activities including: develop publications and outreach materials, create and manage website content, create timelines, infographics, and project dashboards; and plan outreach, awareness, and educational events for the Institute. The position will also involve direct stakeholder engagement to assist in the delivery and management of program messaging while also representing the Institute to the media. Please note:

Duties and Responsibilities:
Support HGHI leadership in defining its vision, mission and values and based on its vision, mission and values, conduct an assessment of all communication needs across the Institute. Once assessment is complete, develop and implement a communications strategy across all aspects of the Institute including social media, website, publications, and supporting materials.
Act as a brand steward, upholding brand and trademark standards and consistency throughout the program.
Manage social media outreach including Twitter and Facebook
Develop and produce analytics reports; use analytics to make informed decisions regarding communications strategy across all platforms.
Revise HGHI's website and manage and drive the content.
Oversee the work of staff involved in communication efforts. Ensure timely updates to the website including event calendars, announcements, new publications and program information.
Partner with program managers and leaders to determine opportunities for project-related website and social media content as well as press opportunities. Manage the social media accounts and ensure that priorities are highlighted appropriately.
Serve as main point of contact for press. Organize and define key messages, write materials, and create and execute press strategies in conjunction with communications plans. Prepare and publish announcements for audiences regarding accomplishments and upcoming modifications. Support the Faculty Director with all of his direct press inquiries and develop a strategy for how he should best engage with the press, media and social media.
Identify need for, conceptualize and develop publications such as brochures, pamphlets, posters, presentations, videos, blogs to communicate strategic objectives.
Work with external vendors and agency partners, as needed, to establish quotes, production schedules, and delivery of materials.
Support the Executive Director and Faculty Director by creating presentations, memoranda, and other communications to be sent to various stakeholders internal and external to Harvard.
Edit research papers, blogs, opinion pieces, presentations, newsletters, release notes, announcements, etc. to ensure HGHI brand is consistent.
Provide broadcast email communication, including but not limited to: authoring email content, providing email distribution technical support.

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (minimum of 4 years).
Minimum of 5 years of related communications experience.
Experience with working with the press and media
Experience with copywriting, proofreading, graphic design, website re-design, and social media outreach.
Experience with project management tools and web-based collaboration technologies.
Must be skilled in InDesign or similar desktop publishing software.
Adobe Creative Cloud suite experience preferred.
Excellent project management and organizational skills, including the ability to develop and meet deadlines.
Must be aware of and willing to learn about new developments in digital technology such as audio, visual, social media / networking, mobile, online communities, blogs, and other web-based technologies.
Ability to work well with cross functional teams across a complex, and changing organization.
Higher education industry experience, with prior experience at Harvard preferred.
