Bellevue College is seeking qualified individuals with a creative background and experience managing content for large-scale websites to fill the position of Web Editor in Chief. This position is exempt from overtime.
The Web Editor in Chief will collaborate with experts from Information Technology Services as well as college-wide communicators and content creators. A successful candidate in this position will ensure continuity, accuracy and branding standards across the website. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining the website content strategy, including creation of an editorial calendar that supports the BC brand and publishes relevant and engaging content for core constituencies.
A combination of astute leadership and hands-on work will set the pace for the college-wide website redesign process as well as the launch and maintenance of the content strategy as designed. This position works closely with leads across the college who are responsible for maintaining level three areas of content on the site.
Essential Functions/Typical Duties
Own the website content strategy, quality and user experience.
Provide oversight to ensure the website adheres to BC's brand, value proposition, messaging hierarchy, style guide, experience design standards, voice, and tone.
Lead a website steering committee to set shared goals and provide oversight for key website pages.
Guide multiple contributors of varying skill levels for level three pages and set content guidelines for consistency across departments.
Oversee and continually improve content standards and the user experience. Identify new tactics based on current best practices.
Partner with Marketing and Communications staff to write, edit and publish content that tells the BC story and enhances the brand image.
Maintain critical public information across the Bellevue College website.
Be self-directed, with guidance from the VP of Institutional Advancement.
Prioritize featured content based on user needs and messaging priorities.
Develop and manage the site editorial calendar and communicate need for updates accordingly with site owners.
Continually monitor analytics and key performance indicators to assure a positive user experience and create strategies to address gaps.
Foster healthy cross-campus relationships and conduct training sessions for new users.

Bachelor's degree from accredited institution in communications or related field
Four years career experience in website publishing or related communications field
Two years hands-on experience updating website content using HTML, CSS and related web technologies
Proficiency in at least one web content management system such as WordPress or Drupal
Two years' experience in a writing-heavy field such as journalism or public relations
One year experience managing web content in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders
One year experience in direct supervision and/or leading teams
Experience working in a collaborative team environment with diverse employees and student/customer groups
Experience with Google Analytics and analyzing data to improve performance
Experience with Section 508, WCAG 2.0, and ADA requirements for accessible content
Experience with photo editing and publishing software such as Adobe Creative Suite
Knowledge of journalistic writing conventions, including AP style rules and grammar
Experience with the integration of social media on the website
Experience working with a broad range of technological platforms and services (operating systems, browsers, mobile devices, etc.)
