This position is primarily responsible for the production and reconciliation of a daily program log that ensures the broadcast of all on-air elements including but not limited to: underwriting announcements, promos, legal IDs, emergency alert system tests, and special copy. The Traffic Manger also writes a variety of on-air scripts, works closely with the underwriting department to create effective underwriting announcements, and ensures station promos are consistent with the WAMU broadcast style and established industry best practices. The Traffic Manager is a key part of the station’s listener engagement strategy and ensures questions regarding scheduled program elements are answered in a timely and effective manner. They will create or complete necessary daily, weekly and monthly checklists to ensure accuracy and completeness of work. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the operation and formatics of a radio station and requires strong proficiency in broadcast scheduling software (such as Marketron, Visual Traffic, Wide Orbit, etc). The position also requires strong writing skills.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Technology. They also work closely and collaboratively with the Program Director
It requires close communication with corporate marketing, the membership department and the technical staff to ensure accuracy of all broadcast elements
This position has contact with the public and communicates with other University departments and outside legal counsel on matters relating to the development of on-air copy
The Traffic Coordinator reports to this position, as well as any part-time personnel in the department
This person is a leader within WAMU, responsible for an essential part of its operations
Weekend and evening hours may be required for this essential position

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education, training, or experience
Five years’ experience in a broadcast traffic position
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
Computer proficiency mandatory including: Microsoft Word, Excel and various applications including a broadcast log management system. Public broadcasting experience very helpful
Must be a self-starter, require minimal supervision and demonstrate the attributes AU requires of personnel in management positions
Requires highly organized, focused and detail oriented person who can perform a multitude of tasks efficiently
The incumbent must exercise behavior, decision making, and reliability consistent with strong leadership
