The West Virginia University Health Promotion and Wellness is seeking applications for a Communications Specialist. This position is responsible for identifying, shaping, and managing the development of high-quality editorial content for WVU news mediums, marketing, public information and corporate communications materials, including publications, news releases, websites, periodicals, media relations collaterals, and other appropriate communication vehicles.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Promotes wider public recognition, awareness, and support of WVU Health Promotion and Wellness services, activities and achievements.
Serves as contributing writer and assists with the planning, development, production and assessment of communications in all media.
Develops multimedia content, including digital video, audio and still photography.
Interviews faculty and professional staff on health promotion and wellness topics, interprets and explains these initiatives and research to the public and other audiences
Participates in planning special events that have communication needs and public relations/marketing impact.
Works collaboratively with WVU University Relations, school and college communicators and WVU Health communications.
Leads WVU Health Promotion and Wellness communications as assigned, including writing ad copy, coordinating video and photography shoots; writing and editing for high profile publications, websites and speeches.
Manage the WVU Health Promotion and Wellness communications and marketing budget
Prepares responses to inquiries from the news media, student media, the public or members of the University community.
Bachelor's degree; preferably in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.
Three (3) years in one of the following:
A news, communication, marketing, advertising, or public relations program for a healthcare organization, college, news media organization, government agency, business, or other large knowledge-based organization, or
Interviewing, writing, and editing, or
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills are essential including ability to present concepts verbally
Ability to create marketing pieces in a variety of media and formats
Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management
Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills
Valid Driver's License
