University Communications and Marketing is seeking a knowledgeable, organized and disciplined individual who is equipped to refine existing media engagement tactics while concurrently exploring and initiating new communications opportunities.
The Communications Specialist III will work in conjunction with the media relations team to implement public relations/external communications initiatives that align with, and support, Ohio University's mission, vision and goals. The successful candidate will work to raise the national profile of the University through targeted media relations to raise the national prominence of the University and promote the achievements of our students, faculty and staff, OHIO's academic excellence and its commitment to being the best transformative student-centered learning experience in America.
The position will also regularly track and report on the success of their outreach efforts via the use of numerous PR reporting and tracking tools like Cision, Google Analytics and more. They will also utilize this data to assess and communicate opportunities to introduce new, or enhance existing, external communications strategies.
The position also serves as the team leader for executing OHIO's external media pitching strategy and maintaining its Faculty Experts Directory. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and editing a broad spectrum of external communications content in support of such external communications outreach and engagement initiatives; they are also responsible for providing strategic communications counsel to colleagues throughout the University.
This role will lead the event planning efforts of the annual Faculty News Gala, which is University Communications and Marketing's showcase event to celebrate OHIO faculty newsmakers who made headlines during the previous calendar year.
As is expected of all UCM personnel, the Communications Specialist III will deal professionally with numerous University stakeholders, external sources and constituencies. Adherence to University policies, the Public Relations Society of America's Code of Ethics, AP Style and state and federal laws is required.
Responsibilities include: Building and executing University's proactive media pitching program. Assisting the media relations team with implementing all elements of the annual strategic media relations plan. Providing reporting/analysis of public relations activities, including pitch program.
Overseeing content for online news room, news release archives, experts directory, other online and social media tools and programs as needed. Routinely auditing online resources and provide data analytics regularly.
Helping with strategic messaging, strategic planning, and media activities internally and for departments outside of UCM as necessary. Serving as part of the on-call team.
Leading event planning efforts for annual Faculty Newsmakers Gala. Facilitating team planning meetings throughout the year.
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or equivalent; minimum of 3 years work experience required; or a combination of education and experience.
