Assists the Area General Manager to recruit, train, mentor and supervise 100+ undergraduate and 40 graduate student employees, and six undergraduate and four graduate student managers.
Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates graduate students who work for the Student Event Services Team.
Trains managers in areas including: programming, marketing, public relations, event planning, and event management.
Manages restaurant space including rental of premises, on-premise food and beverage catering, and audio-video systems.
Manages Student Event Services, a comprehensive program that provides beverage service for campus events as well as support and oversight for late-night student events, with or without alcohol. SES provides oversight of undergraduate social events hosted by student organizations this includes crowd management and alcohol service. Manages the training program for the SES team by developing and implementing training opportunities throughout the year. Edits the accompanying SES training manual.
Establishes and maintains close and collaborative relationships with students, staff, faculty, House Masters, clients both on and off campus, and with the Manager of Student Life Events, the Student Life Fellow, and the Manager of the Student Organization Center at Hilles.
Liaises with numerous campus departments and organizations involved with student life including Harvard Police, Risk Management, Office of Student Life (OSL), and Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Services (AODS).
Serves as the alcohol service safety trainer for SES and pub employees, and in conjunction with AODS, and OSL staff, provides alcohol and event safety training to student groups.
Enforces all laws, and Harvard University policies and procedures, regarding the safe sale, service and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Advises students and staff on best practices and procedures for late night student initiated events management. Collaborates with the Director for Student Programming to ensure the SES team services are integrated into the event advising and registration process managed by the OSL. Ensures good communication between the SES program, the OSL, and the student organization leaders.
Prepares and assumes fiduciary responsibility for fiscal year programming budget.
Ensures an environment where diverse staff are valued, respected and encouraged to develop their skills through training opportunities.
May serve as a guest member of committees at the request of the supervising Dean.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Full time Academic (10 Month) position; Part time summer employment (June/July) optional.

Bachelor's degree required. ServSafe, Allergen, Chokesave, TIPS, TIPS Trainer, and HACCP certification required (must be obtained within six months). Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Master's degree preferred. 2-4 years of experience working in college student activities/student programming preferred. Demonstrated experience engaging, advising, collaborating, and cultivating connections with students and student organizations highly desirable. Previous work experience managing events with alcohol. Understanding of procedures regarding the sale and service of alcoholic beverages preferred. Experience working in a facility that serves alcohol and is frequented by an underage population is strongly preferred. Strong management, time management, problem solving and team building skills necessary. Excellent written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are required. Strong financial expertise working with budgets. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation policies desirable. Prior experience operating a pub and /or catering planning a plus. Ability to work with a diverse student population. Knowledge of social media sites and data base systems is strongly preferred.
