Responsible for managing the creation and implementation of a strategic plan for social media that is aligned with the goals of the university and the Communications Office, as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of social media activities for Colgate University-branded social media accounts.
The strategist reports to the Director of Media Relations and works closely with editorial, creative, video, and web team members to plan, produce, and curate creative and engaging content that supports the college's goals and priorities on social media.
The strategist serves as the primary administrator and is accountable for maintaining the highest standards, ensuring all content shared is consistent with university messaging; developing and executing strategies that maintain and enhance the reputation, image, and identity of the university. This position is responsible for training all staff with access to social media accounts in the skills to maintain university standards, messaging, and brand voice.
●Demonstrated writing and creative content production skills ●Expert with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Snapchat in a professional or business environment. ●At least one year of experience in social media marketing, creating social media campaigns, or as a digital/social media specialist. ●Knowledge of social media trends. ●Demonstrated experience and knowledge of social analytics tools and SEO. ●Demonstrated experience and knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and social media optimization (SMO) ●Ability to apply creative thinking, identify new engagement opportunities, work independently, and take initiative ●Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and handling multiple projects ●Experience with or understanding of crisis and emergency communications principles in a social media environment preferred ●Experience in a higher education environment preferred. ●Experience with web content management systems, preferably Drupal (CMS). ●Evening and weekend availability is required
●Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Digital Media, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field.
