Develops, implements and evaluates comprehensive fundraising and advancement efforts for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts, endowments, and planned giving programs to benefit the UT Health Science Center at Houston. Manages a junior gift officer.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Develops strategy and solicits major gifts primarily from individuals, some corporations, and foundations. Identifies, cultivates, and manages a portfolio of prospective donors.
Constructs a set of activities and initiatives leading to the solicitation of major gifts of $50,000 or more. Experience with $1 million or principal gifts a plus.
Works with Prospect Research team to develop strong and continuous donor pool.
Stewards alumni involved with major initiatives and solicitations.
Meets minimum goal of 120 donor visits annually as established by the central Development Office.
Meets proposals submitted, fundraising and gift planning goals.
Manages faculty relationships as assigned and incorporates grateful-patient fundraising when relevant.
Works with University President and Deans from six schools for priority funding needs.
Participates in strategic planning, working with volunteer and advisory boards and serves as an organizational liaison in planned giving, corporate and foundation team relations.
Mentors team of fundraisers and, as applicable, manages staff by communicating ideas, providing clear direction and priorities and influencing others in ways that inspire a shared vision and keep to the core values of the institution.
Travels in state and nationally, to secure support from alumni, individuals, corporate, and foundation representatives.
Participates in University development meetings as appropriate. Attends events/special functions as required.
Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls, which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient and assets are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Demonstrated experience working with senior-level and executive leadership. Ability to work with minimal supervision; demonstrated energetic and enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to relate well with and influence decisions of a diverse constituency. Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts of $50,000 and above. Ability to systematically analyze complex issues and resolve problems quickly, using discretion with sensitive material. Ability to effectively communicate complex information clearly in oral and written formats to a variety of audiences. Skill in working cooperatively in a team environment.
Bachelor’s degree in related field. Master’s preferred.
Five (5) years of related professional fundraising experience. Prefer experience in medicine, health care, higher education or science fields.
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
