JOB PURPOSE: Directs the development and implementation of internal and external executive communications and marketing initiatives for the Student Affairs division, enabling programs, services, events and/or products to meet divisional objectives. May negotiate vendor relationships. Identify and implement process improvements. Direct cross-functional collaboration across the organization. CORE DUTIES*:
Develop, manage and execute executive communications (including external and internal communications) and strategic marketing plans/programs.
Create and manage the execution of an integrated communications strategy, which leverages the university and Student Affairs brand, incorporating appropriate channels (i.e., website, print, email, social media).
Write, edit and strategize about Student Affairs executive communications, ensuring consistency of voice and accuracy of message.
Develop and refine communications to undergraduate and graduate students. Work in collaboration with University Communications and the offices of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Vice Provost for Graduate Education on university-wide communications to students.
Lead media relations response for Student Affairs in collaboration with University Communications.
Define and conduct research, including benchmarking, identification of opportunities, and campaign/program/service/event analysis. Use the results to make strategic decisions.
Communicate plans across the organization and/or university to educate and influence stakeholders.
Maintain and develop the division-wide web strategy. Provide technical and content support to Student Affairs units and their website managers.
Convene regular communications with Student Affairs staff who have communications responsibilities in their units.
Build partnerships with other school, department, product, service, program, and event and/or channel managers.
May oversee event management to support communications and marketing objectives.
Manage key vendor and consultant relationships.
Scope and manage project/program budget(s).
May oversee communications support staff, interns and other contingent staff; provide staff training.
* - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree desirable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders and keep sensitive information confidential.
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills. Ability to write quickly and under time pressure constraints.
Expert knowledge of grammar and style guides, including Chicago Manual of Style, Associated Press and University Communications.
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated ability and experience using InDesign, Photoshop, Drupal or equivalent web CMS. Illustrator is a plus.
Demonstrated ability and experience using d-SLR camera is a plus.
Knowledge of HTML and related website development technologies.
Familiarity with basic SEO strategy and web accessibility principles.
Ability to write and edit content for the web, with knowledge of best practices for content strategy and management.
Strong creative eye.
Strong project management and communication skills. Strong ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects simultaneously, handle multiple assignments under pressure with interruptions, and meet deadlines. Highly organized and focused.
Proven ability to work with and learn new applications and technologies quickly.
Demonstrated experience in integrated communications strategy and execution across channels including digital and print.
Extensive knowledge of strategic analysis, customer segmentation strategies and marketing planning.
Ability to collaborate with an array of colleagues both within Student Affairs and across campus.
Commitment to student development and learning.
