Job Summary: Working in concert with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors, the VP of Development oversees and coordinates all activities pertaining to the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of gifts from individual, corporate, and foundation donors, and all other activities appropriate to obtaining strong support and maintaining secure, positive relationships with current and prospective donors. This position also works closely with the Communications/public relations leadership group to maximize Partners’ image to potential and current donors. .
Responsibilities and Duties:
Formulates a comprehensive development program in consultation with both the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors.
Develops operational plans for raising donated funds
(unrestricted, restricted, and endowment) including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding potential donors.
Advises the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, and volunteer leadership, and assures successful major gift fund-raising.
Leads and coordinates all of the components of the development program, which includes annual giving; corporate and foundation support; planned giving, and special events. This position is chiefly responsible for the success and implementation of the annual special event programs - Vision & Excellence in Healthcare Leadership Dinner and Golf Event. Building a private donor base is essential.
Recruits, trains, and motivates key corporate and community volunteers to further enhance, promote, and implement the organization's fund-raising objectives.
Develops and implements a planned approach to continuing strong financial support in California and national foundations whose areas of interests coincide closely with the mission and work of Partners in Care Foundation.
Designs and implements major gift solicitation. Maintains
ongoing relationships with current and prospective major donors.
Develops, maintains, and monitors donor acquisition and donor renewal direct mail programs.
Remains informed on all significant developments in the fields of taxation and philanthropy, as well as fund raising techniques.
Plans, directs, and maintains a long-range program in the area of planned gifts, wills, bequests, trusts, and other types of deferred giving in order to build an endowment for the future.
Oversees and coordinates all Special Events, works to build corporate support and carries other responsibilities as assigned.
Provides records, reports, analyses, studies, and projects information which will make the development program effective.
Communicates the development program to the Chief Executive Officer and staff, the Board of Directors, and the public
Strengthens and promotes the public image, mission, philosophy and values of Partners with public and private agencies,
corporations, foundations, and individuals to define the role philanthropy plays in supporting its research and health care programs.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Significant experience in all facets of development preferably as a fund raising generalist, coupled with a demonstrated record of accomplishment of success. This individual will have strong skills in terms of proposal and grant preparation and solicitation.
Self-motivated and able to demonstrate great individual initiative. The ability to control and move forward on several priorities simultaneously. This includes switching priorities as required, without losing momentum.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and excite both internal and external resources. Has the ability to inspire all people involved with Partners in Care Foundation to be effective resources in fund-raising endeavors.
The ability to articulate the many faces of Partners in Care Foundation's development program.
Solid organizational skills blended with a high degree of creativity with regard to fund development activities.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Possess high work standards and proven track record in meeting or exceeding stated goals.
Builds trust with others through one's own authentic commitment and high ethical standards.
Possess a high level of self-confidence, professionalism, and ability to perform under pressure.
A Bachelor's degree in related field is required.
Five (5) years progressive experience in fund development.
Two (2) years experience in a leadership position including management and administrative responsibilities.
