Position Summary: The UC system office of Diversity and Engagement is responsible for translating UC's vision of inclusive excellence into sustainable policies, practices, and programs. We work closely with leaders throughout UC to advance institutional equity, diversity, and inclusion. We provide policy guidance, support for program accountability, technical assistance, professional development and training to advance UC's efforts. We administer programs for K-12 educators, pre-college students, community college students, and families and communities. We collaborate with UC campuses and other higher education institutions to advance curricular rigor, high-quality teaching and college preparation and access for K?12 and community college students. We cultivate systemwide strategic partnerships with community-based organizations to raise awareness of UC and generate interest and motivation to prepare, apply and enroll at a UC campus.
The Data and Reporting Analyst supports the Office of Diversity and Engagement 's work in effectively collecting, analyzing and reporting data and information on impact of the University's diversity, inclusion and student preparation, educational partnerships, teacher education, and community engagement programs to University stakeholders, program practitioners, community and intergovernmental partners, policymakers, and funders.
The Analyst uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices in institutional research, data analysis, and organizational policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The Analyst reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Diversity and Engagement and works closely with program directors and managers in the UC Office of the President and campus program leaders.

Duty 1: Researches, gathers, analyzes and summarizes information for complex data research projects related to diversity, inclusion, student academic preparation, and teacher education for use in accountability, summative evaluation, and reporting.
Conducts complex analysis involving multiple factors or data sets, including individual-level records of program participants, UC corporate student files, UC personnel data warehouses, degree/credential outcomes, student/participant experience surveys, and external data sources such as the College Board, National Student Clearinghouse, and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Creates Tableau online data visualizations and dashboards from multiple data sources for use by program leaders, stakeholders and the general public. Works cooperatively with campus staff, program practitioners, and other data and policy analysts in Diversity and Engagement, Institutional Research and Academic Planning, Academic Personnel and Programs, Student Affairs, Public Affairs, and other UCOP offices in the interpretation of data and presentation of results and findings. Duty 2: Synthesizes complex issues and presents them in a creative, clear and non-technical manner.
Takes primary authorship of annual and ad-hoc outcomes reports on student academic preparation, teacher education and professional development programs, and campus climate.
Prepares regular and ad-hoc briefings for management , senior leaders, and the Regents on topics including, but not limited to, student academic preparation, teacher education, campus diversity and inclusion, and public engagement.
Provides technical assistance and recommendations regarding program goals and outcomes, enrollment trends and other programmatic operations. Synthesizes research findings on educational policy, data and research as related to Diversity and Engagement goals and strategies. Function:Reporting and Policy Analysis Percent: 35
Duty 3: Assists with the design and maintenance of departmental systems that manage, store and retrieve data for analysis to track program participants in student academic preparation and teacher education programs , and for annual and ad-hoc reporting. Function:Database Administration Percent: 15
Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in a data-rich field, such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, social sciences, management information systems, quantitative research methods, or related field is required.
Minimum three years of related experience working with and understanding relational databases, developing database queries, and analyzing and interpreting complex data.
Strong ability to present information in a clear, concise, and non-technical manner verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of organizational principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).
Able to provide good judgment, decision-making, and problem solving. Thorough active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task.
Experience in robust project management practices for both individual and group projects. Required
Masters or Ph.D. in a related field preferred.
Experience working with data management tools such as Tableau, Business Objects, Cognos, SAS, SPSS, Stata, DB Visualizer, SQL or similar tools preferred.
Experience in working with diverse communities, constituents, stakeholders, or clients preferred. Preferred
