Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Public Relations Specialist I for the Office of Financial Aid. This position is under direct supervision of the Associate University Director of Financial Aid/Technical Support. The Public Relations Specialist I is responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of strategic social media and digital initiatives. This position also develops and manages viral campaigns, creates and supervises high-profile channel accounts and integrates interactive media into the overall Financial Aid process.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Maintains an active Financial Aid presence through well-conceived and crafted content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Develops and schedules a weekly calendar of posts and tweets and evaluates emerging social media tools, technologies and trends for potential use.
Monitors School-related conversations in social media (including evenings and weekends, especially during the active student recruitment season), answering questions/providing customer service.
Collaborates with other departments on social media campaigns to support special events, conferences, and recruitment and Financial Aid activities.
Researches, writes, and edits frequent stories promoting scholarships, seminars, workshops and events organized by the Financial Aid Office.
Serves as an in-house resource for a variety of writing and editing projects, including website copy, newsletters, annual reports, development materials and grant applications.
Works with the Senior Management team to develop, write and report on new and renewal grants.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, English or Journalism; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
A minimum of 2 years' related experience managing one or more social media accounts for an established brand
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong oral and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Power Point, Excel, Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator, plus knowledge of HTML and Dreamweaver
A proven track record of developing successful social media growth and communication strategies.
Must be creative, an idea-driven thinker; self-starter; passion for social media and an eagerness to keep up with social media trends.
Proven experience with and knowledge of prominent social media platforms and with monitoring and analytic tools
Collaborative and consultative work style; strong partnering and relationship-building skills
Innovative/creative as well as structured and organized; detail oriented
Able to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Must have experienced and working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and all social media platforms.
Evaluate emerging social media tools, technologies and trends.
Willingness to travel to both campuses and off-campus events and some evening and weekend work may be required
