We are recruiting for a Director, Payroll to join our Payroll Department in Louisville, KY.
Directs all policies, procedures, and activities of Payroll operations. Ensures that payrolls for 85,000+ employees are processed timely, accurately, and in compliance with federal, state and local tax laws, government regulations and company policies and procedures.
Directs payroll operations, directs the workload of the payroll managers/supervisors, analyzes processing methods, and initiates improvements to ensure the accurate payment, smooth running operations, and regulatory compliance of an annual payroll in excess of $3.5 billion.
Assists with systems development, operations and support to identify and implement system enhancements and modifications, set priorities and direct conversion activities. Ensures that reporting needs are met.
Develops and administers policies and procedures. Ensures consistent application of payroll practices and compliance with all governmental regulations, including DOL/IRS and Treasury requirements.
Conducts meetings, produces and maintains policy and procedure documentation, identifies training needs in the department and at the field level to ensure that all payroll policies and procedures are communicated and that all payroll personnel are adequately trained.
Ensures employees receive training, development, coaching, and motivation for effective performance and retention.
Develops payroll supervisors in technical and analytical ability, and organizational and management skills. Build a knowledgeable and effective workforce.
Responds/advises on various inquiries involving A/P, payroll bank accounts, audits, report requests, union requirements, and benefit, employee relations, or system issues.
Stays abreast of new legislation and regulatory rulings impacting payroll.
Excellent managerial and leadership skills that demonstrate ability to create a positive work environment, motivate employees, communicate effectively, maximize utilization of staff and infuse pride in the values and mission of the organization.
Values and acknowledges the importance of understanding and meeting customer needs.
Expert knowledge of payroll principles and practices, wage and hour laws, and other federal and state regulatory requirements.
Understanding of federal, state and local payroll tax withholding rules.
Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related field.
5+ years experience in managing/directing a multi-state, multi-corporation payroll function
Experience with a variety of computerized HR/payroll systems including in-house and outsourced systems and timekeeping systems.
Experience with a large multi-state company with many sites of service that is logistically complex and challenging is a big plus.
