Job Posting: Summary of Essential Job Duties: Project Associate Per Diem -- Science Communications Writer position reporting to the Executive Director of Communications. This writer supports members of the Communications team by writing specialized stories as assigned about Cedars-Sinai research, medical education and science for internal and external channels. This individual translates complex science, research studies and technical jargon for lay audiences, and contributes to the production of video content, social media and web content, and collateral materials as needed about Cedars-Sinai's scientific enterprise. This individual works directly with scientists, researchers, physicians, nurses and other Cedars-Sinai staff to produce stories and other content as directed by the Communications team. This individual is expected to maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with guidelines for usage of content, patient consenting processes and proper editorial style. Additionally, this individual ensures that written copy meets institutional style and tone guidelines, and conforms to strict accuracy standards. This individual is expected to maintain respectful, professional conduct when interacting with patients and media, and to comply with all Protected Health Information policies and procedures. Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in communications or related field required. License/Certification/Registration Requirements: N/A Experience: At least 5 years prior communications experience related to journalism, public relations/media relations, web writing or marketing. Must be able to work independently outside the office setting. Excellent and demonstrated writing and editing skills. Demonstrated ability to translate complex subject matter, dense science and technical jargon for lay audiences. Experience creating and editing web content. Excellent organizational skills, including knowledge of online databases. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple timelines simultaneously. Proven ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with peers, teams, staff at all organization levels. Must be able to perform duties in a fast paced, high volume environment with frequent interruptions. Experience working in healthcare, nonprofit institution, corporate communications, a plus.
