The university Photographer and Digital Asset Manager will shoot, edit, and publish high-quality photos of students, faculty and staff, university guests, and other subjects; events; architecture; locations and programs; scientific and other technically difficult subjects; and other photographic needs of the university.
The position is responsible for securing and filing signed model release forms when appropriate, as well as gathering and recording proper caption information for every photoshoot.
The position will utilize an organized system for moving images from capture to publication, including naming, managing, backing up, and finding.
The position provides photographic consultation and creative problem-solving services to clients.
- Use digital SLR cameras and computers to produce photographic images; - Take photographs in the field and occasionally in studio using appropriate lighting techniques; - Photograph subjects for a variety of print and digital publications - Edit photos and make available to office colleagues and campus community; - Secure and file signed model release forms when appropriate; - Gather and record accurate caption information for digital images; - Organize, name, archive, locate, and otherwise manage digital files; - Consult with faculty, staff and clients and determine best photography to meet their needs; - Organize and prepare photographs for marketing programs of the university; - Scan, color correct, manipulate and prepare images; - Assess the need for and recommend the purchase of photographic equipment and materials; maintain equipment inventory; maintain equipment security; maintain quality control; - Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in fine arts photography, photojournalism, or related field
Three years of professional experience in still photography
Commercial photography experience
Sports and/or action photography experience
Experience operating unmanned aerial vehicle camera systems.
Ability to operate, adjust, and maintain professional DSLR cameras and accessories
Experience in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, and/or other creative software
Ability to operate, adjust, and maintain various equipment such as film negative scanners, high resolution flatbed scanners, flash, lighting, and digital card readers
Ability to obtain well-composed, clear photographs in all types of environments, including handling fragile or technically difficult subject matter
Ability to plan, compose, and produce still photographs and motion pictures with news, public relations, instructional, and evidential value; edit, enhance, retouch, and resize digital images; meet and work with members of the public.
Ability to gather and record caption information for digital assets, as well as organize, name, archive, and locate files.
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Strong interpersonal skills; personable with clients and coworkers with an ability to put subjects at ease
Knowledge of photography copyright laws
Experience with Workamajig project management software

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $47,000 - $53,000 annually
Schedule/Appointment: Schedule Varies, 40 hours per week
Working Conditions: The working environment includes indoor and outdoor field/location work and studio work. Photography gear may need to be carried by hand to shoot locations. The anticipated working hours are 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that will include early mornings, evening and weekend work. There will be occasional travel to various areas within the state. Additional hours beyond the 40-hour week may be occasionally required depending on the assignment and workload.
